"The Surreal-Ideal Vanity" is a statement about stereotypical ideals of female beauty in our culture. It's a mixed media piece, using found objects, carved plaster, wood, paint and charcoal drawing under glass.
"At the Banksters' Banquet" is a statement about the 2008 sub-prime lending debacle. "American Shrine" was created by fellow artist Sandra Cherk and me for the 2018 Women's March. It was installed at the Louden Nelson Community Center in Santa Cruz the day of the march, in the auditorium with other other voting-related activities. It was an interactive piece where people were invited to write on tags their hopes, visions and criticisms of our country. The tags were then hung on the shrine. It was also installed at the Pajaro Valley Art Center for the 2019 "Vote. Your Vote is Your Voice" show. Again, visitors were invited to write their hopes and dreams for our country, and hang the tags on the shrine. |
